Buying lots, land, and acerages is very very different than buying a home.  The most challenging part is financing.   I suggest you check on financing first with your local bank.  That typically is NOT one of the big money city banks, but one of the smaller local banks.   Typically you will need to have a nice margin of cash versus the purchase price to purchase vacant lots and land.   If you are short on cash, you may want to consider buying a property with a home on it and finance it as a home with land, instead of just a lot.
